Handraises are a feature in Heartbeat that allow for students to reach out to teachers and initiate a conversation.
How Do I Raise my Hand?
If you want to talk to a teacher about a specific subject, a dimension, or just because you want to talk Handraises are the way to go! You can choose to raise your hand whenever you see the Handraise Icon, this can be on a certain dimension, or on the Handraises dashboard.
If you choose to raise your hand on a particular dimension, you will be brought to our hand raise submission page. Here, you can choose who you would like to speak to, let them know how you're feeling, and what you want to speak about.
Once your hand has been raised, your teacher will be notified in Heartbeat. Handraises do not notify your selected teacher via email or text, so if you have an urgent matter please reach out directly!
On your Handraise dashboard, you will be able to see your currently raised hands,
Your responses,
any timed out Handraises (They stay raised for two weeks!)
And lastly, any canceled hand raises. You can always re-raise your hand, or put your hand down. It's totally in your hands.. Pun intended!
How Do I respond to a Handraise?
On your Heartbeat toolbar, you will see Handraises next to groups. If you have a new Handraise to respond to, you will see a notification icon with the number of Handraises.
Once you click Handraises you will be brought to the Handraise dashboard, here you can find more information on which student has raised their hand and what they are interested in speaking about as well as the severity of the issue.
To learn more about the subject the student would like to speak about, click the More info button. This will show the exact Dimension that the student used to initiate the Handraise. The dimension will provide information on the topic, as well as strategies to empower and educate the student on their needs.
The Handraise dashboard also shows how long it has been since a student has raised their hand. Handraises will timeout after two weeks, both the student and the teacher will be notified of a timed-out Handraise.
Once you have had a conversation with the student, or the students' needs have otherwise been met you can check the "Contacted" box next to the students' Handraise. This will mark the student as Contacted, and they will be listed in your contact Handraises for future reference.
